The idea of putting your house on the market and finding your new dream home always sounds so incredible, until you actually get into the process. Once you have finally decided to put your house on the market you learn how difficult it is to make a home look like it’s lived in, but not too lived in. You also learn that people will tear apart the small quirks that you’ve come to love, and tell you that you’re asking too much for a house that you’ve called home for years. In the meantime, you’re also having to find the next place you will call home, and worry about packing and the like.
We know, it sounds exhausting. However, that’s where we come in. At Pacific Sotheby’s Realty, we do our best to make putting your home on the market enjoyable. Through our experience and knowledge, we’re able to create expectations and provide guidance ahead of time.
One of the areas that we see people struggling with often is what to get done before their house is actually on the market. Over time we’ve found that there are a few things you can be prepared for, regardless of where you are selling your house or what the market is looking like, that can really make the moving process easy. Here are a few things that you should consider before we start putting your house on the market.
This specific step is one that people often take offense to, but it shouldn’t be! As people, we fill our homes with plenty of things that we might not need as often as we think, and we simply don’t know when to part. One of the most beneficial things that you can do when putting your house on the marketing is removing clutter. There are a few reasons that this is such a beneficial step, and we’re going to go over them now.
We mentioned it briefly above, but the perception of your house is going to be incredibly important. This is probably one of the most frustrating things that people deal with when their house is on the market. As the one moving, you’re in a rush to pack things so that it’s ready and you don’t have to do last minute packing, but at the same time, you need to make it look like your house is still lived in, so that people can get an idea of what it will look like. When you declutter a home, you are giving yourself the chance to find the perfect opportunity for setting your home up for an incredible perception. Tossing the things that don’t serve a purpose any longer can really open up some space and leave a fresh feeling to a room. Aside from that, this will also help you with packing, but we’ll get to that later.
Showings are going to happen inevitably, and the moment that your house is on the market you’ll see just how spontaneously they happen. In an instant, you could receive a call that says that a showing has been scheduled for the next day. Now, of course, we always do our best to give you as much notice as possible, and of course you’re going to want showings so that the house can sell, but the one thing you might not realize is how difficult it is to clean up an entire house on a moment’s notice, especially after a long day of work or errands. By removing clutter from your house, you are making the task of having to clean, at any instant, so much easier.
And, the final benefit goes to the always necessary packing. Having to move your belongings from one house to another is going to happen, and as soon as you start packing you’ll realize how much clutter you have. When you take time to minimize the clutter before you’ve even started packing, you give yourself a break from the packing. Now, of course, there are items that you might find later on when packing that you can still toss, but by removing the clutter ahead of time, you’re more likely to find yourself organizing your belongings and getting rid of some of the mess you’ve become accustomed to.
On the surface level, removing clutter from your home might not seem like a huge deal, but the truth is that you will see tremendous benefits from this small step when your house is being featured with luxury real estate. When people are looking for their next luxury home, they want to really take in the space and the home for the bones of the home and the possibility that it shows them for their family specifically.
And while it is incredibly beneficial, we have only just started touching on the things that you can do to improve the process of putting your house on the market. Make sure that you check up our blog post that will be coming up soon so that you can gain further understanding of little things that will make a big difference in the long run.
